Coffee Shop Sounds

If you come into Pappalecco, sit down in your favorite seat, chances are without even having to ask, you will be served your usual drink.

If you put your cell phone away, close your laptop and sip your coffee you start to hear the multitudes of language penetrating the bustle of the street outside. You will recognize this as a cultural moment. You thought you were just having coffee, but instead you are served an experience, a moment in life where you can be inspired by your thoughts.   Listen deeper.  Hear the grind of the espresso beans. Then the barista pulls the lever twice with a slight click the grinds fall, they are pressed. You hear a crunch, it takes you back to that walk in the snow as a child as the snow crunches under your shoes. The metal on metal screeches to pierce your ear, you snap back to reality and take your second sip. The punch of a button, hot water flows threw the grinds excreting a wonderful dark liquid into a glass. The perfect espresso. It happens fast, yet slow. Now you focus back to your thoughts. Maybe you could come early tomorrow and enjoy your drink in a mug…. As the Italians do. Someone told me once you should start your day becoming inspired. Inspired to conquer the day. To be the best that you can. Maybe that should be my new year resolution, be a better me.  Or maybe just to listen more, talk less. It’s amazing what you can hear, what you can learn, the ways in which you can be inspired, when you are living in the moment.

Bravo! Felicimo! Very well put. It is the individual moments in between life, where we can here our own breath, and feel the abundance of life around us, that keeps us grounded and helps us grow.

Beautiful writing. Made me feel like I was there with you in that moment!

I feel the same…no phone, no computer, and lately with my favorite comapnion – my cat, Mabel. She sits in her carrier, being admired, and loving the experience that I’ve loved for years.
